-------------------------------------------------------
Back in 2000/2001, I lived in Las Vegas and led worship specifically for Junior Highers. It was during that time that I began to write worship songs. This song is one of my first..
It is a song of dedication and surrender. The imagery comes from Psalm 40:5-10. I was looking for a simple refrain that the Junior Highers could grab on to; something they could sing and pray and mean; lyrics that were not over their heads, but were also not shallow.
See, the students worshiped passionately and expressively. They came together every week and sang their hearts out to God. But I wanted them to know that worship goes beyond music and church services. Worship goes beyond one hour a week. God wanted them to lay down every bit of themselves. His desire was for them to submit everything they had and everything they were to Him and His will.
Its not about empty offerings, or sacrificing just for the sake of sacrificing. According to Psalm 40, God has no desire for any of that. Our songs and our times of corporate worship are our chance to express to God, verbally, the devotion and adoration that already exists within us.
That is the worship He desires.
